Abilene Police, AISD Investigate Social Media Threat; No Local Schools Involved

ABILENE, TX — The Abilene Police Department and Abilene Independent School District are investigating a social media post that claimed threats against three schools with names resembling schools in Abilene.

The threats were directed toward Bonham, Travis, and Horace Mann schools. However, authorities have confirmed that the threats were actually aimed at schools in the Amarillo school district. Abilene Police, with AISD’s help, determined that there was no credible threat to any Abilene schools.

Amarillo Police detectives identified the source of the post as a student within their district. The student and their parents have been contacted.

Local authorities assured the public that they had found no link between the threats and any schools, staff, or students in Abilene.

Both Abilene police and AISD encourage residents to report any credible threats against schools or the community.
