Texas 14-Year-Old Killed After Fleeing Police Pursuit

PEARLAND, TX – A 14-year-old male was struck and killed by a vehicle on State Highway 288 on the night of August 28 after fleeing from a police pursuit, according to the Pearland Police Department.

It happened around 9:50 p.m., when a Pearland Police officer was in pursuit of a vehicle on the 14000 block of State Highway 288 northbound when the driver lost control and collided with a center concrete barrier. The driver, identified as a 14-year-old male, fled the vehicle on foot, crossing the main lanes of the highway, including the HOV lane, towards the southbound lanes.

About five minutes later, Pearland Dispatch received reports of an auto-pedestrian accident in the southbound lanes of State Highway 288. Responding officers discovered that the individual who fled the earlier crash had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the southbound lanes.

Police administered CPR at the scene before the injured male was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The incident is under active investigation.
