San Angelo Man Sentenced to Prison for Evading Arrest and Meth Possession

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been sentenced for possession of methamphetamine and evading arrest after an incident at a local motel earlier this year.

Juan Ramirez, 32, of San Angelo, has taken a plea deal for evading arrest or detention and possession of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, on Feb. 19, 2024, San Angelo police officers responded to Studio 6, located at 1601 South Bryant Boulevard, regarding an unwanted subject. Police dispatch call notes indicated a male subject wearing a red hat, face mask, black coat, and red pants was walking around the parking lot and checking room doors at the motel.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the motel manager who let officers look at live security footage where Ramirez was identified running into a hallway and hiding in a stairwell. One of the officers went to the west side exit door while the other officer went to the east side doorway to make contact with Ramirez.

Then, Ramirez ran from the officers as they attempted to detain him. As Ramirez ran away from one of the officers, he struck the officer with the east motel door. Ramirez actively resisted while officers were trying to make the arrest.

The motel manager said that Ramirez was checking door handles of various rooms and that he was not welcome at the motel. The manager also stated to Ramirez that he called the police to have him removed from the motel.

Investigators reviewed Ramirez’s criminal history and learned that he had previously been convicted of evading detention on Sept. 11, 2019.

Also on Feb. 19, 2024, Ramirez was found to be in possession of methamphetamine of greater than one gram but less than four grams.

Ramirez was booked into the Tom Green County Jail that day and has remained an inmate since. In exchange for a guilty plea, Ramirez was sentenced to six years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Ramirez had both charges, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest or detention, enhanced to third-degree felonies. He also had an assault of a peace officer charge that was dropped in this matter.
