Large Fire at Odessa Commercial Site Prompts Evacuations

 

ODESSA, TX – A large fire erupted at Permian Basin Containers located at 819 W. 81st Street, prompting evacuations and a significant emergency response from Odessa Fire Rescue (OFR).

The blaze was reported early this Tuesday morning.

 

The immediate area surrounding the fire, spanning 81st Street from Erron to Golder, is being evacuated as a safety precaution.

Officials confirmed that there is no danger of harmful fumes. Residents are being directed to the Red Cross Evacuation Center at Connections Church, situated at Tanglewood and Penbrook.

According to OFR, the fire has consumed two buildings on the property, an RV, and a mobile home located nearby. OFR also says they seem to be on the downhill side of stopping it.

Authorities have blocked numerous streets around 81st Street and West County Road to manage the firefighting operations. Residents and commuters are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
