AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has made a decision not to pursue the acquisition of the former Fairfield Lake State Park property, which is now under the ownership of FLG Owner, LLC.
As we reported back in June, the TPWD reported "Todd Interests has chosen to raze a public asset that is beloved by Texans and welcomes more than 80,000 visitors each year. TPWD’s mission compels us to try to save not only the park, but one of our state’s finest fisheries.”
Now, "TPWD understands the significance of preserving our state's natural beauty and ensuring recreational avenues for Texans," stated TPWD Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Ph.D. "However, it's essential to responsibly manage our state's financial resources to optimize the benefits our parks offer to all Texans. The support from the people of Texas for increased access to state parks is commendable, and I am optimistic about the future of outdoor recreation in our state."
This decision affirms TPWD's commitment to refrain from using eminent domain in the future to acquire any part of FLG Owner's property, including its water rights. Consequently, there are no plans for establishing a state park or any other utilization on FLG Owner's property.
"We extend our gratitude to the dedicated staff and visitors who made Fairfield Lake State Park a cherished destination over the past fifty years, as well as those who rallied to safeguard the park," expressed Texas State Parks Director Rodney Franklin.
