NWS Warns of Tropical System Arrival Saturday

SAN ANGELO, TX — A weak tropical wave moving into Texas this weekend is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to parts of West Central Texas, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.

Rain chances will be greatest southeast of a Brownwood-to-Eden-to-Sonora line, with a 20 to 40 percent chance of storms beginning Saturday. Forecasters say some brief downpours are possible, but widespread heavy rain is not expected. Increased cloud cover may provide some relief from the heat in affected areas.

Temperatures across the Big Country and Concho Valley will remain high through the end of the week, with triple-digit highs likely Thursday and Friday. Friday’s highs are forecast to hit 102°F in both Abilene and Sweetwater, and 99°F in San Angelo. Today's high in San Angelo will be around 99°F.

No heat advisories have been issued, but residents are urged to take precautions as heat risks increase. The National Weather Service advises staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, and monitoring for signs of heat illness.

Temperatures are forecast to range from near 100°F north of I-20 to the low 90s in parts of the Hill Country where cloud cover will be thicker.
