SWEETWATER, TX – A District Judge in Nolan County is about to release the man charged with the murder of Hailey Dunn due to lack of evidence.
According to reports out of Nolan County, Shawn Adkins will be released soon because there is insufficient evidence to move forward with the trial.
As we reported earlier, Adkins was arrested by Texas Rangers and accused of killing Hailey Dunn, his then girlfriend’s daughter.
Dunn was seen leaving her home in December 2010 for the last time. She had been missing for almost three years before her remains had been found close to Lake JB Thomas in Scurry County.
Dunn vanished from Colorado City in 2010, just one day after Christmas.
Her remains were found three years later in Scurry County. She was laid to rest in 2017.
No arrests were made for about a decade. At the time, authorities believed Adkins, who was Dunn's mother's boyfriend, was the last person to see her.
Investigators suspected Adkins but did not have enough evidence to make an arrest until June 2021. Court documents showed that Adkins allegedly murdered Dunn by hitting her in the head with a blunt object.
Adkins had been charged with murder and tampering with evidence after he allegedly attempted to conceal her body.
This is a developing Story.
