44-year-old Man Indicted for Possessing Several Thousand Improper Images of Children

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been indicted for possessing thousands of inappropriate images and videos of children.

Elvis Charles Smith, 44, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for possession of child pornography. According to court documents, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which provided information on June 18, 2020, the social media chat platform “Kik” reported that the account “smittdawg1119” had uploaded 17 media files of suspected child pornography.

Kik provided the 17 media files to NCMEC who sent the files to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office. A Grand Jury Subpoena was submitted to Suddenlink, who provided the information that showed who the IP address was issued to. It came back to the 1700 block of Greenwood Street in San Angelo, Texas. Google was served a Grand Jury Subpoena who then provided the account holder for the suspected e-mail address that showed Smith with the address on the 1700 block of Greenwood Street and a phone number.

The investigator was able to identify Smith and he was located at an apartment on the 1800 block of Harrison Street. An interview was conducted with Smith who allegedly stated that he used to live on the 1700 block of Greenwood Street and the phone number was his. Smith also allegedly stated that the “Kik” account “smittdawg1119” was his account. Then, Smith estimated in the interview that at one point he has downloaded “several thousand files” containing child pornography on several electronic devices.

The media files contained young, prepubescent male and female children, ages six to 12, engaging in sexual activity with adults.

Smith was arrested and booked December 27, 2022, for possession of child pornography. He was released on March 22, 2023, on $30,000 bond.
