Jury Begins Deliberation in Fiddlestrings Axe Attack Trial

SAN ANGELO, TX – The jury in the Fiddlestrings axe attack trial is currently deliberating. The trial has gone on for the last three days in Tom Green County.

All week long, the jury has heard evidence from both the District Attorneys Ashley Knight and Joe Webster and the defense's attorney John Sutton. The defendant was in the court room but did not take the stand during the trial.

Evidence included a number of witnesses including officers with the San Angelo Police Department, bartenders from the bar that night, and those involved with the assault.

If Mejia is found guilty, then the court will move on to the punishment phase where he could be sentenced to 20 years in prison in a $10,000 fine. Mejia elected, prior to the start of the trial ,to have the court chose his punishment if he is found guilty.
