LUBBOCK, TX — No. 18 Texas Tech run-ruled No. 13 Oklahoma State 12-1 in seven innings Sunday, March 19, and took two of three in the series at Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park in Lubbock. The Red Raiders (18-4, 2-1) won the series against the Cowboys to open up Big XII play.
The Red Raiders’ offense exploded against preseason Big 12 pitcher of the year Juaron Watts-Brown with a 10-run 5th inning in which 16 batters saw the plate. Junior College transfer Austin Green hit a grand slam off of Watts-Brown to extend Texas Tech’s lead to 6-1 before Damian Bravo added a 2-run shot to chase Watts-Brown off the field.
Texas Tech added four more runs in the 5th before Oklahoma State finally made it out of the inning. The Red Raiders blanked the Cowboys for two more innings to claim victory 12-1 in seven.
Next up for Tech is a conference road series against Texas (14-7, 0-0) in Austin. The scheduled first pitch is at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26.
