SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has upgraded the Fire Weather Advisory to a Red Flag Warning because of deteriorating weather conditions forecast for Wednesday.
According to the NWS, there is a Red Flag Warning in effect from noon to midnight Wednesday.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur. A combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels will combine to contribute to extreme fire danger.
Expect west to southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph and relative humidities below 15% and extremely dry fuels. Any fires that develop could spread rapidly in these conditions. All outdoor burning is discouraged.
On a related note, Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday morning declined again to enact a burn ban because conditions were close but had not yet met the threshold to issue a burn ban. However, all outdoor burning is discouraged including burning brush or trash. Also, postpone all welding activity if at all possible.
This is a serious and potentially dangerous weather situation.
