SAN ANGELO, TX — West Central Texas is expected to see a warming trend this week, with dry conditions and temperatures climbing well above normal through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.
Forecasters say daily high temperatures from Wednesday through Saturday are expected to run 15 to 20 degrees above seasonal averages. Afternoon highs on Saturday could approach or tie record levels in parts of the region.
In San Angelo, the forecast high for Saturday is 82 degrees. The record high for that date is 85 degrees, set in 2010, giving the city a low chance of a record being tied or broken. In Abilene, Saturday’s forecast high is 84 degrees, matching the existing record set in 2010, with a low to medium chance of a tie or new record.
High temperatures across the Concho Valley are expected to range from the upper 60s to low 70s through midweek, rising into the upper 70s and low to mid-80s by Saturday. Overnight lows are forecast to remain mostly in the 30s and 40s, with some locations dipping into the upper 30s early Friday morning.
Looking ahead, the National Weather Service’s 6- to 10-day outlook for Dec. 21–25 indicates temperatures will continue to lean above normal across West Central Texas. Precipitation during that period is expected to remain below normal, with typical rainfall totals averaging between 0.15 and 0.25 inches.
The warming trend coincides with the winter solstice, which occurs Sunday, Dec. 21, marking the first day of astronomical winter. The solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year, with about 10 hours of daylight for the region.
