According to court documents, on October 2, 2022, investigators responded to Shannon Medical Center, located at 120 East Harris Avenue where several victims of a stabbing and fight were being treated. Once there, it was learned that a fight occurred at Whiskey River Saloon, located at 125 East Concho Avenue and that one victim was deceased from a single stab wound to the chest.

The investigator spoke with one of the victims who said they were walking out of Whiskey River Saloon and witnessed one of his friends being assaulted by several individuals. The victim then went to assist his friend and was assaulted by the group and could not identify the individuals who attacked him.

Then, investigators spoke with a witness who said she was at Whiskey River Saloon with Ray Vera, who has been indicted for murder, and several of his friends. The witness said that after the altercation, she and Vera drove to “Casino’s” house, which was located on University Avenue. “Casino” was identified as Anthony Giese and was involved in the altercation along with co-defendant Jennifer Guerrero, who lives with Giese. The witness positively identified Guerrero as the female that assaulted the victim at Whiskey River.

Cell phone footage was reviewed and allegedly showed Guerrero repeatedly assault and kick the victim on the ground of the parking lot outside the bar while the victim was allegedly being held down by Giese. The footage also showed Julian Suarez and Raymond Scott assaulting the victim repeatedly on the ground. That victim had a fractured forearm, fractured left thumb, black eye, cuts to the side of his left eye, and head injuries resulting in a concussion.

All four co-defendants were seen in the cell phone footage taking part in the assault in some way while Vera was the only defendant to be charged with murder.

  • Suarez was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on October 5, 2022, and was bonded out on $150,000 bond the same day.
  • Guerrero was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on October 7, 2022, and was bonded out on October 15, 2022, on $175,000 bond.
  • Giese was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on October 5, 2022, and was bonded out the same day on $150,000 bond.
  • Scott was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on October 5, 2022, and was bonded out on October 7, 2022, on $150,00 bond.

Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury are both second degree felonies that carry a possible punishment of two to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for each charged.
