COLEMAN, TX – A 19-year-old man was killed in a fiery head on crash near Coleman early Tuesday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Dec. 6 at 4:14 a.m., troopers with the DPS were dispatched to US 67, just 1.1 miles east of Talpa, for the report of a major crash involving an 18-wheeler.
When the troopers arrived, they discovered a 2020 International Truck Tractor towing a 2020 Hyundai Semi Trailer that had crashed head on into a 2013 GMC Sierra Pickup. The pickup was on fire when the troopers arrived on scene.
The driver and passenger of the pickup were pronounced dead on scene by Justice of the Peace Vicki Kemp of Coleman County. The driver has been identified as Andrew Sosa Jr., 44, of Sweetwater, and the passenger Ethan Harris, 19, of Rising Star. In the DPS report it was stated that it was unknown if either was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver in the Semi, Alexander Hill, 31, of Copperas Cove, was uninjured and was wearing a seatbelt.
The initial investigation revealed that the semi was traveling east on US Highway 67. The pickup was traveling west on US Highway 67. The pickup drove on the wrong side of the roadway causing the pickup to strike the semi head on. The pickup caught on fire after colliding with the semi.
At the time of the crash the weather was clear and the road was dry. The posted speed limit in this area is 75 mph.
