Heat Advisory & Wildfire Danger Alert Issued Amid String of 100 Degree Days

SAN ANGELO – West Texas will endure an unseasonably scorching hot weekend prompting officials to warn of heat dangers to health and extreme wildfire danger.  

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo issued a Heat Advisory for the Concho Valley Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.  Record high temperatures between 101 and 106 degrees may cause heat illness for anyone who stays outside unprotected for too long. The forecast has four consecutive days of temperatures over 100 degrees including Friday.  

Experts advise that anyone spending time outside use extreme caution.  Reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to the early morning or late evening hours.  Stay hydrated and know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  

Residents are recommended to stay in an air-conditioned room and take care of vulnerable children and adults and also provide shade and water for outdoor pets.  This is a dangerous situation and record heat is expected through Monday.  

There is also a Fire Weather Watch from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday which may be extended into Sunday and Monday.  Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts will combine with tinder dry fuels and low humidity levels around 6 percent to create extreme wildfire conditions.  Authorities may issue Red Flag Warnings if conditions continue to escalate.
