SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Red Flag Warning for all of West Central Texas Saturday afternoon and evening because of extreme wildfire danger.
According to meteorologists with the NWS, a combination of high wind, low humidity and tinder dry fuel have created extremely dangerous wildfire conditions which could persist into the middle of next week as the drought deepens across the Concho Valley.
This extremely dangerous situation exists because southwest winds steady at 15 to 20 mph will gust frequently to 30 mph and combine with relative humidity values around 7 percent and extremely dry fuel source like dry vegetation to allow any spark to become a raging, out of control wildfire.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical wildfire conditions exist now our will shortly. That combination of high winds, low humidity and dry fuel will contribute to extreme wildfire behavior.
This is a serious and dangerous situation and everyone is urged not to burn outdoors at all or engage in any activity like welding or transporting any metal that may cause a spark.
Red Flag Warnings will likely be issued again over the next few days until conditions change.
