Dodge Charger Burns on the Houston Harte

A 2006 Dodge Charger caught fire early Sunday evening. It was completely destroyed when a fire in the engine compartment broke out and completely engulfed the vehicle.

A 17 year old female driver and her friend were traveling down the eastbound frontage road to the Houston Harte Expressway when the driver said she heard something pop.

She said she began to smell smoke, as she was following a friend who was traveling in another car in front. The friend called the Charger driver on her cell phone and reported that there was smoke coming from her car and to abandon it. The Charger driver pulled over right at the Bell Street intersection and both occupants performed an emergency egress.

The driver reported that as soon as they were clear of the Charger, it erupted into flames.

The San Angelo Fire Department arrived and extinguished the flames. Fire Marshal Ross Coleman is investigating the cause.
