Driver Killed After Being Slammed Into the Back of an 18-Wheeler

ROSCOE, TX –– A crash involving two 18-wheelers and a Jeep claimed the life of a 20-year-old man from Gainesville on Monday afternoon.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred on I-20, approximately two miles west of Roscoe.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 freightliner truck towing a trailer was traveling east on the interstate when the driver had to slow down due to traffic.

Following the truck was the victim, identified as Phillip W. Halterman, in a Jeep Patriot.

Even though both the driver of the truck and Halterman slowed down in time, the driver of a second freightliner truck failed to control his speed and crashed into the Jeep –– forcing it into the back of the first 18-wheeler.

Halterman was pronounced dead at the scene and no injuries were reported in the other two drivers.
