SAN ANTONIO – A man having a "mental health crisis" was killed Tuesday after he jumped from an overpass into oncoming traffic and was struck by an 18-wheeler.
According to a San Antonio News Outlet, on Aug. 7, officers with the San Antonio Police Department were dispatched to the area of Interstate 35 and Brooklyn Avenue for the report of a man who was recklessly walking down the interstate.
When the officers arrived they discovered a man who was having a "mental health crisis" who was walking down the interstate with a large stick and a beer bottle.
Officers initially attempted to stop the man but instead he threw the beer bottle at them. The crisis negotiators and a mental health team were called in to help but did not make it in time.
For an unknown reason the man jumped from the Interstate overpass into oncoming traffic. Before hitting the ground, he was struck by an 18-wheeler and killed.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was shut down for an extended period of time Tuesday afternoon.
