ODESSA – An Odessa man who was convicted of killing his neighbors over two decades ago has a date for his execution.
Michael Gonzales, known also as “Spider”, was charged with the murders of Manuel and Merced Aguirre in 1995.
According to the investigation, Gonzales was burglarizing the neighbor’s home and when they woke up, Gonzales stabbed the couple several times. He proceeded to steal a .22 caliber revolver, a purse, a microwave, and a VCR until he was arrested later that same day.
Michael “Spider” Gonzales was sentenced to death on December 12, 1995, and has been on death row going on 26 years now.
On Wednesday, Gonzales was in court for a hearing for his execution date, which has been set for March 8, 2022.

26 years is an insane amount of time to have someone on death row. I'm no lawyer but I can't believe it takes anywhere close to that long for all the legal appeals or whatever to take place. No wonder people like him aren't hesitant to kill to get what they want.
