Concho Valley PAWS Hosting First Ever Charity Claybird Shoot

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Pull for PAWS Charity Claybird Shoot is scheduled for Saturday, August 7th at the San Angelo Claybird Association.

"This is our first time to host such an event and we are very grateful to have this opportunity," said Jenie Wilson, PAWS Executive Director. 

The claybird shoot is to raise funds to help cover the costs of emergency and standard veterinary care associated with the rescue and rehoming of shelter pets.

The event will kick off with coffee and donuts at 8am with the shoot starting at 9:30.  One in ten shooters will win a prize. Lunch will be provided by Sutton County Steakhouse. 

Following lunch, Concho Valley PAWS will have a live auction featuring long guns, handguns, leather goods, collector's knives, coolers and more.  

“We are excited to see the outcome of the auction as we had some amazing help preparing for it and we had some very generous sponsors," said Wilson. "Events like this are a fun way for the community to come together and support our mission."

Funds raised at the event will go directly to helping with the cost of veterinary care associated with the organization's rescue efforts. Concho Valley PAWS has already spent over $200,000 on veterinary care this year. The organization provides for the medical care of the animals housed at the San Angelo Animal Shelter.

"Prior to our partnership with the city, sick and injured animals were euthanized. As part of our partnership, we treat all treatable illness and injury giving every animal the chance at finding a loving forever home upon recovery," said Wilson. "In addition to that, every pet adopted through our program is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped."

PAWS also offers a program to assist with the emergency veterinary care of pets from low-to-moderate income homes.  

"Unfortunately, there are few resources to assists pet families in crisis. Most families do not have medical insurance on their pets. If a gate is accidentally left open and a pet gets out and injured, that family may not have the financial ability to pay for emergency veterinary care thus having to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize the pet. Our compassion fund helps give families options during a pet crisis," said Wilson. "These programs save lives and help pets and people. They are only possible by the support of our community, so we ask everyone who enjoys clay shooting to join us.  We anticipate this will be a fun and successful fundraiser with the hopes of making it an annual event."
