Special Weather Alert Issued for Tom Green County

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service in San Angelo released a special weather alert for North Eastern Tom Green County and South Coke County on Sunday evening. The alert said a strong thunderstorm is moving through northeastern Tom Green County and could impact the area until 6:45 p.m.

At 6:02 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a storm over southern San Angelo moving north at 20 mph. Forecasters said the storm could produce wind gusts up to 40 mph.

The storm is expected to affect San Angelo, San Angelo State Park, O.C. Fisher Reservoir, Lake Nasworthy, Grape Creek, and Goodfellow Air Force Base.

The weather service warned gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring, which can strike up to 10 miles from the storm.

Heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding. Drivers are urged not to travel through flooded roads.

Residents are encouraged to seek shelter indoors or inside a vehicle. Severe weather reports can be made to local law enforcement, which will forward them to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo.
