SAN ANGELO, TX – A former San Angelo ISD employee pleaded guilty in court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
According to court documents, on Nov. 10, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were contacted by administration at SAISD regarding a theft of property that occurred at the SAISD maintenance building.
When officers arrived to the scene they reviewed photos that were taken on Nov. 1. In the photos Norberto Gonzales Jr., 61, was seen taking a number of items from the shop, loading them in his vehicle, and leaving the scene.
Gonzales was then detained and was taken to the CID annex where an interview took place. During the interview Gonzales admitted to the theft and said that he had been doing it over the past four years.
Officers where then sent to his property on the 2500 block of Martin rd. where a number of items were located. Police claim that the thefts added up to over $4,500 in value.
Gonzales was then arrested and charged with theft of a property between $2,500 and $30,000. He was indicted on the charge on Jan. 7, 2021. A jury trial was set for Oct. 4, 2021 but the two parties made a joint request for a plea.
In the plea deal, which was signed on Jun. 23, Gonzales agreed to plea guilty to the charge in return he received five years deferred adjudication. He will have to pay $8,000 in restitution plus $60 a month as a community supervision fee and perform 120 hours of community service.
