Second Suspect in River Pointe Apartments Shooting Booked into Jail

SAN ANGELO, TX — One of the San Angelo teenagers who was charged with murder in the River Pointe Apartments shooting has been booked into jail.

Da’Von Lewis, 17, was arrested for his involvement in the fatal shooting of Joe Angel Martinez.

According to court documents, on July 23, 2025, an investigator was contacted over the phone by a sergeant with the San Angelo Police Department. It was learned that police officers had been dispatched to the intersection of Rio Concho Drive and Roosevelt Street. Upon arrival, they observed a wrecked grey Dodge Charger and a victim that possibly had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center and succumbed to his wounds.

The investigator responded to the crash scene and observed the Dodge Charger off of the roadway. A lieutenant with the San Angelo Police Department told the investigator that witnesses described seeing the vehicle in the parking lot of River Pointe Apartments prior to the crash. The same witnesses also said they heard a loud bang in the parking lot before seeing the vehicle driving away and three individuals running away from the parking lot.

In the River Pointe Apartment parking lot, a single 9mm cartridge was located.

The next day, the investigator was informed that a witness was at the CID Annex and was requesting to speak about the shooting. In an interview with this witness, a detective and the investigator learned that Justin Ramirez, juvenile Dominick Garcia, and the defendant, Da’Von Lewis, were at a residence in the 1400 block of Roosevelt Street. All three left on foot before returning sometime later.

Then, the witness observed the presence of police officers in the area and asked Ramirez what happened. This upset Ramirez, and he told the witness that Garcia had shot someone. Garcia and Lewis had left the residence, but Ramirez was willing to talk about the incident.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., on July 25, 2025, Ramirez arrived at the CID Annex where he was interviewed by investigators. They learned that Ramirez, Garcia, and Lewis, were all at the residence on Roosevelt Street when Garcia and Lewis planned to purchase THC vape pens from an individual that Ramirez did not know. The individual ended up being the victim, Joe Angel Martinez.

During the planning, Lewis and Garcia also were going to take something from Martinez during the transaction. Then, all three left the residence and walked to the parking lot of the River Pointe Apartments to meet with Martinez and were wearing dark colored clothing and masks.

The victim arrived in the parking lot when Garcia and Lewis approached the driver’s side of the vehicle. Ramirez then observed Garcia produce a handgun, point it at Martinez, heard a loud pop, and saw Garcia shoot Martinez.

Ramirez said he was scared and all three of the suspects ran back to the residence where the witness confronted him. Garcia and Lewis changed clothes, left the clothing that they were wearing during the incident in Ramirez’s bedroom, and left the residence together.

Security footage was obtained from the River Pointe Apartments and, after reviewing the footage, the events were consistent with what Ramirez said during his interview. Also, a photograph of Lewis was obtained.

On the same day, a San Angelo police officer met with Ramirez at the Tom Green County Jail and presented the photograph of Lewis. Ramirez positively identified Lewis as the individual in the photograph.

Garcia, Ramirez and Lewis were all taken into custody within days of the homicide.

Lewis was booked into jail for murder on Aug. 15, 2025, and is currently being held on $500,000 bond.
