BROWNWOOD, TX -- The community of Brownwood is mourning the loss of a high school teacher who was killed in a crash on Tuesday.
According to Brownwood High School Lindsey Smith, Brandi Tyson died in a one-vehicle crash while on vacation in Colorado.
"It's just heartbreaking," Smith said. "I think everybody in the BISD community is saddened for her, her family ... she was a good person, a kind person, and I know the English department especially is struggling right now. It's heartbreaking for the faculty and staff and kids here. They're really struggling."
According to Brownwood High School Principal Lindsey Smith, the 46-year-old teacher was leaving Colorado early in order to help with summer school next week.
Tyson had just finished her second year of teaching English at Brownwood. She had previously taught at Comanche.
Tyson was a graduate of Early High School.
Visitation for Tyson will be held on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Early at 10:00 a.m.
"The tragic loss of Ms. Tyson leaves a void in our Brownwood ISD family. Ms. Tyson was a passionate educator who cared about her students. Our mental health coordinator shared a conversation she had with Ms. Tyson on the last day of school," said Brownwood Superintendent Dr. Joe Young. "Ms. Tyson shared a list of students with our counselor asking her to check in with the students over the summer to check their well-being. "Her desire to help students went beyond her rigorous English class. Our prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time."
