Police Look for Driver Who Crashed into Occupied House

A local family was awoken at just after midnight Monday morning when a white Chevy pickup came crashing into a wall of their home, caving in the wall just behind their headboard. 

The driver, who had just passed a man as he sped down Ave. Q heading east, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto South Irving and instead crashed into the house on the corner, knocking a hole in the wall. 

The driver then threw it in reverse to back the truck out, before plowing ahead northbound through the yard and continuing down Irving. The man who the driver had just passed attempted to pursue the truck at this point, but lost the vehicle on Irving, a family member said.

In the driver's flight, the truck got sideways and side-swiped a mailbox a few houses down and then disappeared. The witness returned to the house on the corner and waited for police to arrive.

Tire tracks veering through the yard showed the path of travel, and police have begun a hit and run investigation. 

Investigating officer Steven Quade said police are currently seeking any information on the driver or the crash, and urge citizens who have information to call the hit and run office at 325-657-4253.
