Severe Storms Spawn a Tornado and Widespread Flooding Tuesday Morning

SAN ANGELO, TX – Several severe thunderstorms rumbled through West Texas early Tuesday morning spawning a tornado near Sterling City and widespread flooding across the region.  

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo reports one to three inches of rain had fallen by 6 a.m. prompting a flood advisory for the area.  San Angelo streets flooded and low lying areas around the Concho Valley saw much needed rain as well.  

Much of the area was under severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the overnight hours and waves of thunderstorms pummeled the Concho Valley and Big Country.  

The flood advisory was in effect through 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. 

The storm system will move out of the Concho Valley by noon on Tuesday and the flooding will subside.  There were reports of large hail in some places as well.  Small hail was reported in San Angelo. 

The rain chances will subside for West Texas through Wednesday.  There is another chance of rain Wednesday afternoon and then again starting Friday heading into the weekend.
