San Angelo firefighters have just extinguished yet another flaming vehicle, this time located on Loop 306 near College Hills and the Concho Educators building.
According to Fire Marshal Ross Coleman, firefighters received the call just before 5 p.m. this afternoon and responded to the scene between Southwest and College Hills, where they found a burning 2000 Chevy Sonic.
Coleman said the right tire had a blow out, and the driver--who handled the situation superbly--traveled to the side of the road.
"Friction heating sprung up and the vehicle was so small that by the time she got pulled over friction heating had caused enough heat to build up and it got on to the gas, then quickly spread throughout the vehicle," Coleman explained.
After the driver pulled over, a bystander ran up to the vehicle and both immediately realized the vehicle was on fire. A small child was pulled out of the back seat and everyone got away from the vehicle.
No one was injured in the fire, Coleman said, adding, "she did everything right".
