SAN ANGELO, TX – A robbery suspect was sent to prison on Friday after he pleaded guilty to stealing a car.
As previously reported, on June 22, officers with the SAPD were dispatched to the Stripes on 19th and Bryant for the report of a vehicle crash. See: SAPD: Witnesses Stop Car Thief from Fleeing
When officers arrived they discovered a vehicle had crashed into a fire hydrant. Further investigation revealed that Rodolfo Rodriguez, 31, was at the stripes and attempted to steal the vehicle. During the encounter the owner of the vehicle was hanging from a door attempting to stop the thief.
This is when Rodriguez crashed into the fire hydrant. The vehicle’s owner was injured.
After the crash, witnesses on scene detained Rodriguez until police arrived.
Rodriguez was charged with robbery and unauthorized use of motor vehicle.
Then on Dec. 10, the District Attorney's Office offered Rodriguez a plea deal. The deal dropped the robbery charge and in return he pleaded guilty to stealing the car.
Rodriguez agreed and he was given 700 days in prison. He was awarded 172 days of time served and was released from the Tom Green County Jail into TDCJ custody on Jan. 14.
