SAN ANGELO, TX – On Monday, Oct. 5, an officer with the San Angelo Police Department was dispatched to the Motel 6 off N Bryant Blvd following the report of a fight in progress.
When the responding officer arrived on scene he made contact with the victim in the Motel 6 parking lot with visible injuries to his face, who stated he was assaulted by two other male subjects.
According to the report, the officer learned that cameras from the motel's security system captured the assault, so the footage was collected for observation.
In the footage the officer observed the Defendant, identified as Joseph Ramirez, and one other individual engaged in a verbal altercation in the motel's parking lot with the victim.
Investigators say the second individual was then seen pulling the victim out of his vehicle and attempting to physically harm him.
Then, as the victim attempts to retreat to his vehicle, Ramirez is observed exhibiting a black handgun, running up to the victim's driver-side window, and striking the victim in the face with the 'butt' of the firearm.
During a follow up interview with investigators, the victim stated that he was assaulted by two individuals who he is familiar with and was able to positively identify by name, including the defendant Joseph A. Ramirez.
Following a joint investigation by the San Angelo Police Department and Tom Green County Sheriff's Office a firearm matching the description of the weapon used during the assault was recovered from the scene.
On Tuesday, Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail around 7:18 a.m.,where he was initially held without bond for the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As of Thursday, Oct. 8, bond for Joseph Ramirez has been set at $75,000.00.
