WESTBROOK, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the death of a 73-year-old man who rolled his pickup on I-20 early Thursday morning.
According to the DPS, on September 3, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the IH-20, 2.5 miles west of Westbrook for the report of a fatal crash.
When the troopers arrived they found a 1990 Ford Ranger that had rolled over in the barrow ditch. The driver of the vehicle, 78-year-old Norman Corbell of Big Spring, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene.
"Further investigation revealed that the Ranger was traveling west in the IH-20 rest area where the vehicle swerved into the bar[row] ditch. The [Ford] Ranger then spun out of control, rolled over, and struck a light pole. The driver was ejected and died at the scene." stated the initial crash report from the DPS.
Corbell's body was taken to the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City. Troopers determined was not wearing a seat belt before the crash.
The crash occurred at around 2:49 a.m. At that time the weather was clear and the road conditions were dry.
