Four-Year-Old Tragically Dies Inside Hot Car

WICHITA FALLS, TX — A four-year-old tragically lost his life after he entered a hot car by himself in Wichita Falls, TX on Saturday.

According to KTXS, the boy wandered away from his home and got inside a hot car. The temperature reached 96 degrees in Wichita Falls on that day.

Texas is the number one state with child hot car deaths since 1991. According to reports in the last 29 years the state has reported 137 fatalities involving children in hot cars.

In 2020, a total of 10 death have been related nationwide, two of the cases have been in Texas. According to KidsAndCars.org, the last two years have been the worst in history for child hot car deaths with 107 children nationwide.

The Kids And Cars organization offers the following safety tips to make sure children cannot get into a parked car:

• Keep vehicles locked at all times, especially in the garage or driveway. Ask neighbors and visitors to do the same.
• Never leave car keys within reach of children.
• Teach children to honk the horn if they become stuck inside a car.
• If a child is missing, immediately check the inside, floorboards, and trunk of all vehicles in the area very carefully.
