SAN ANGELO, TX --At approximately 7:30 p.m. Grape Creek VFD was dispatched to a major motor vehicle accident at the intersection of FM 2105 and US Hwy 87. The intersection has been notorious for accidents for years.
According to Grape Creek VFD Deputy Fire Chief Jose Rivera, when volunteers arrived they located three vehicles involved in the crash. A pickup truck and a semi-truck had collided while the third vehicle sustained minimal damage.
One person was transported to the hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash caused the temporary closure of the northbound lane of Hwy 87 and traffic was diverted to the access road as first responders worked to clear the scene.
"Historically speaking out of all of our intersections in our fire district this is the one that causes the most wrecks and most injuries," said Rivera. "We have been pushing for an overpass here for years, the community has been pushing for an overpass, but for whatever reason, it has not happened."
"We want to remind commuters to use extreme caution when approaching this intersection," said Rivera. "Wrecks like this will continue to happen until an overpass is cleared."
