ODESSA, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are currently investigating an auto-pedestrian crash that left one person dead overnight.
The victim in the crash has been identified as 16-year-old Rena Rodriguez, of Midland, TX.
According to DPS, troopers reported to Knox Avenue about seven miles west of Odessa around 12:33 a.m. on Monday.
When troopers arrived on scene, they discovered that the truck hit a teenage girl. The victim, who was later identified as Rodriguez succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Further investigation of the crash revealed the truck was traveling south on Knox Avenue when it struck Rodriguez who was walking in the center of the road at the time.
DPS states the crash is still under investigation at this time.

Yes, walking in the street can be dangerous to your health. Add the modern distraction addiction and it becomes even more so. Just yesterday, I was driving into town on a FM road that allows 60 mph but as I was in the middle of a 35 mph right hand curve that others frequently manage at 50+, I see a lady walking in the same direction I'm travelling, 3 feet from the shoulder, well into my lane. Had I been distracted with some gadget, or been driving much faster, she would have been a hood ornament on my truck. I slowed quickly and when I could see it was clear to go around her I hoped to get her attention to let her know she was in a dangerous position, but, as I passed she never looked up from her phone, or removed her headphones. Ditzy gal had know idea she came close to dying.
