Man Struck and Killed By Southwest Airlines Jet Identified

AUSTIN, TX - The unidentified man who was struck and killed by a Southwest Airlines flight last Thursday night at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has been identified by Austin Police. Authorities identified 22-year-old Junin Ko as the individual who was struck and killed on the runway. Ko was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:41 p.m. on Thursday.

According to Southwest Airlines, on May 7, Southwest Airlines flight #1392 arrived safely at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) after being cleared to land on runway 17R.

Shortly after touchdown the Boeing 737 attempted to avoid an individual who became visible on runway. The aircraft quickly came to a safe stop, after the individual was struck by the aircraft.

Immediately following the Pilots reported the event to local air traffic controllers as well as the FAA.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport resumed normal operations Friday, but the Southwest Airlines aircraft involved in the incident showed cancellations for all four of its scheduled flights the following day.

It was related to Covid 19. Up to that very moment, no one had contracted the deadly virus while standing on an active runway. He never knew that he would die while protecting his health.

Active runways are very level. One could even pitch a tent and light a fire. Sounds cozy
