Border Patrol Agent Takes Down Suspect in Sam's Club Stabbing

MIDLAND, TX – An Off-Duty Border Patrol Officer saved multiple lives Saturday when he stopped a man who had already stabbed four people, including two small children, inside the Sam's Club. 

According to CBS7, on Mar. 14, officers with Midland Police Department where dispatched to Sam's Club for the report of an assault in progress. 

When the officers arrived, they discovered the man had already been detained by an off-duty Border Patrol officer. They also found four victims who had been stabbed by a knife. The victims were immediately taken to the Midland Memorial Hospital. 

Further investigation revealed that the man had stabbed the victims before being approached by a Sam's Club Employee. The employee was also stabbed. Two of the victims were small children. 

The Border Patrol Officer says he heard a commotion while shopping and went to check it out. Once he saw that the man had stabbed the victims he pulled his gun and identified himself as a law enforcement officer. 

The suspect was then detained until Midland Police could arrive. 

As of Mar. 16 three of the stabbing victims have been released from the hospital. The fourth victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, is expected to be released later in the day.

The suspect, 19-year-old, Jose Gomez was arrested and interviewed. During the interview he confessed to investigators. It is still unknown the reason for the stabbing at this time. 

Gomez is charged with three counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in the Midland County Jail.
