Distracted Driver Causes Crash While Watching Police Arrest Shoplifter

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – A distracted driver caused a crash on 1st St. and Abe St. Friday afternoon while watching San Angelo Police arresting a suspected shoplifter in the Walgreen's parking lot. 

According to San Angelo Police Department Traffic Division investigating officer Long, a silver Chevrolet Malibu was stopped at the stop sign on 1st St. 

A white Dodge Charger was southbound on Abe St.  The driver of the Malibu failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and crashed into the Charger. 

The driver of the Malibu was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way. 

According to scanner reports, a suspect wanted for shoplifting an electric scooter from the Walmart on S. Bryant was stopped by police in the Walgreen's parking lot. 

Officers were questioning the driver of a pickup which had an electric scooter still in the box in the bed of the pickup. 

The crash occurred while police were talking to the driver.
