Updated 10:30 a.m. The driver of that 18-wheeler was injured in the crash Friday morning. According to DPS trooper Baker, the 49-year-old driver was southbound on U.S. 87 and lost control of the rig on the wet road surface.
The truck left the roadway and wound up on its left side.
The driver was transported by ambulance to Shannon Medical Center with minor injuries.
Trooper Baker says the driver will be cited for driving at an unsafe speed due to road conditions.
The trooper said drivers need to slow down because of the rain over the next few days and allow extra travel time to arrive safely.
SAN ANGELO, TX -- The driver of an 18-wheeler apparently lost control of his rig on a rain slick U.S. 87 South just past the U.S. 277 overpass and crashed.
Reporters at the scene say the truck appeared to be eastbound when the crash occurred. The truck and trailer wound up on its side.
The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office sent out a nixle alert at 9:23 a.m. warning drivers that traffic was being diverted in the area due to the crash.
It appears the truck was the only vehicle involved. No word yet on injuries.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating the crash.
