SAN ANGELO,TX-- Angelo State University will host a special family-friendly Grand Slam event to raise money for a new endowed ASU scholarship on Saturday, April 21, at ASU’s Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, 1600 University Ave.
Sponsored by graduate students in ASU’s Coaching, Sport, Recreation and Fitness (CSRF) Administration program, the Grand Slam activities will begin at 4 p.m. in conjunction with the ASU Rams baseball team’s doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico University.
All the money raised from the event will go to endow a new ASU scholarship in honor of Dr. Warren “Spider” Simpson, director of the CSRF program, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Grand Slam activities will include a silent auction of various donated items, including vintage metal Coca-Cola signs, ASU autographed baseballs and a Texas Rangers facility tour, among others. Carnival games on the concourse of the baseball stadium will include corn hole, a trash can slam, Ram pong, a baseball toss, mini-Ram ‘Em games and a cake walk.
Various packages that include admission to the baseball games and vouchers to play the carnival games are available for different levels of donation:
- $10 Package – Includes one adult admission and five vouchers for games and/or popcorn
- $20 Package – Includes one adult admission, 10 vouchers and an event T-shirt
- $100 Package – Includes 12 admissions and 60 vouchers (five for each admit)
All children aged 12 and under wearing baseball or Spiderman attire will receive free admission when accompanied by an adult.
Individual vouchers to play the carnival games and redeem for popcorn will also be available for $1 each during the event. Carnival games will require one voucher, the cake walk will require three vouchers, a small bag of specialty popcorn will cost five vouchers and a large bag will be eight vouchers.
ASU students with a valid ID will receive free admission to the game. For a $10 donation, they will receive five game/popcorn vouchers and an event T-shirt, while supplies last.
