BIG LAKE, TX — Two 18-wheelers towing sand trailers collided head-on, resulting in a fiery crash 18 miles northwest of Big Lake early Saturday morning.
According to the Texas DPS, a 1999 Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer for sand to service the oil wells, driven by Hugo A. Garza-Hinojosa, 61, of San Antonio, was traveling northbound on State Highway 137.
At the same time, a 2015 International truck tractor with a similar semi-trailer was traveling south on the same highway. The International was driven by Jacky Washington, ,Jr. of Grand Prairie.
The preliminary crash report only states that the two 18-wheelers collided head-on.

Reagan County first responders worked a horrific wreck early Saturday morning north of Big Lake on State Highway 137 near the Stiles Cemetery. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene by Reagan County J.P. Patty Creech. DPS released the names of the two men Sunday evening. Hugo A Garza-Hinojosa, 61 of San Antonio, TX, and Jacky Washington Jr., 25 or Grand Prairie, TX are identified as the victims in the wreck. The report indicates Garza-Hinojosa’s sand hauler 18-wheeler was traveling north on State Highway 137 while Washington’s sand hauler was traveling south when they collided head-on. The trucks were on fire when crews arrived on scene after being paged out at 4:10 a.m. The wreck is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Other departments working the scene were the Reagan County Sheriff’s Department, Reagan County Fire/EMS, and the North Reagan County Fire Department. The weather was clear and the roadways dry. The crash happened at 3:50 a.m. early Saturday morning, according to the report.
The Big Lake Wildcat was at the scene of the crash and reported that both trucks were on fire when first responders arrived on scene at around 4:10 a.m.
The Wildcat reported that other departments working the scene were the Reagan County Sheriff’s Office, Reagan County Fire/EMS, and the North Reagan County Fire Department.
Both truck drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by Reagan County Justice of the Peace Judge Patty Creech.
