SAN ANGELO, TX — The crash involving a high speed jump from a bridge that happened Monday morning near the Tom Green and Runnels County line is being investigated by the Texas DPS.
According to the DPS, the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet 2500 pickup was northbound on U.S. 67 approaching the Willow Creek Draw bridge. Two males occupied it.
The driver failed to drive in a single lane, DPS stated. He struck the right guardrail of the bridge. Then, he overcorrected back to the left and drove through the left guardrail.
The truck plunged at least 20 feet below the bridge onto the bank of the creek bed, then struck a concrete bridge pillar underneath the westbound lanes. The truck came to a rest on its right side.
The passenger was rushed to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. DPS reported that the male passenger is in critical condition in ICU.
The driver was cited for Failure to Drive in a Single Lane.
