Big Rig Fuel Truck Slams into Mertzon Store

 

MERTZON, TX — A truck tractor towing a semi-trailer tank labeled “fuel” was driven into the side of a storefront in Mertzon late Saturday night. Irion County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Texas DPS were on the scene.

According to a deputy, the driver of the rig was northbound on Broadway, also called U.S. 67, and for an unknown reason, the truck driver drove into the side of Hargrave's at 104 N. Broadway St.

The driver told the deputy he didn’t remember a thing when he was helped down from inside the cab, which was inside Hargrave’s Store.

The fuel storage tank on the trailer was empty, the deputy said.

The exact cause is under investigation. The crash happened after 10 p.m. Saturday night.
