SAPD Officers Arrest a Man Hiding in Carport After Burglarizing a S. Jefferson Street Residence

SAN ANGELO, TX — Arround noon today, San Angelo police officers were dispatched to a residence in the unit block of South Jefferson Street for the report of a possible burglary in progress and that the suspect(s) may still be inside the residence, possibly hiding in the attic.

Responding Officers arrived quickly to the scene and were updated with information by the homeowner that a suspect had fled the residence and was last seen running through the backyard and over a fence.  Additional officers were dispatched to the resident and responded and created a perimeter around the house.

During an exterior search of the property, Officers located evidence indicating that someone may have entered an enclosed carport. Upon searching the carport, Officers located a man, who matched the description of the suspect, hiding on the ground.  He was taken into custody without incident and identified as Chance Taylor, of San Angelo. Taylor told responding officers that there may be additional suspects in the house, but after a sweep of the house officers did not locate anyone else. Officers were able to access a crawl space inside the house, but no one was inside.

Furthermore, Police found evidence that Taylor had been inside the attic and at various points had partially fallen through the ceiling’s sheet rock.

Taylor was arrested on a Class A misdemeanor charge, Criminal Trespass of Habitation, and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
