Man Struck by GMC Truck Dies in Jones County

ABILENE, TX — An Abilene man who was struck by a GMC pickup truck on a highway in Jones County died, DPS reported.

According to the report, Ronnell Dupree Sims, a 40-year-old man from Abilene, exited the passenger side of a vehicle after it came to a stop next to the northbound side of U.S. 83 near the CR 320 intersection. Sims then walked out into the middle of U.S. 83.

A 21-year-old Anson man, Tyler Keith Pope, was driving north in a 2011 GMC pickup truck at about the same time and did not have enough time or space to avoid striking the man in the middle of the road

A witness made comments to the DPS investigator at the scene indicating that Sims desired to commit suicide.

The skies were clear to partly cloud and the roadway dry, DPS reported.
