Road Rage Causes Rollover on U.S. 277 South of San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — A minor case of road rage caused the driver of an old Chevrolet pickup to crash in a single-vehicle rollover Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 277, south of San Angelo near the Ratliff Rd. intersection.

According to Texas DPS, the pickup driver was northbound on U.S. 277 and came up behind a car whose driver was traveling too slow for his liking.

DPS said the driver told them he steered the pickup to pass with a jerking motion, exaggerating the turn into the incoming lane. He then overcorrected, side-skidded and ended up rolling into the adjacent cotton field.

DPS gave the driver a sobriety test at the scene because Trooper Robert Andrete said he smelled the scent of alcohol on the pickup driver’s breath. The driver passed the sobriety test and Andrete explained this was a case of residual alcohol from the night before. The driver admitted he had been partying then.

“It was not a factor in this crash,” Andrete said.

The pickup driver was issued a citation for failing to maintain a single lane of traffic.

There were no injuries and the crash happened at approximately 2:30 p.m.
