SAN ANGELO, TX - There's an old saying, "Don't believe anything you read and only half of what you see on the internet." Starting Sunday, internet feeds went abuzz with rumors that Hobby Lobby was closing all stores across the nation. Unfortunately, many people read the headlines, and the story went "Chicken Little" with "the sky is falling" scare; word spread like wildfire.
Take heart San Angeloans, according to store manager, Cynthia Hudec, "Our store, located at 2701 Southwest Blvd., is NOT closing. I have been inundated with calls yesterday and today asking the same question--somewhere around 100. I think it has something to do with how the internet 'recycles' things and some of those stories are dated from years ago. Rest assured, we are not closing."
Upon further investigation, Bob Miller, Communications Coordinator in Advertising with the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma corporate office supplied the following statement Monday afternoon:
"Hobby Lobby often hears from concerned customers who have read on social media that the company is closing its doors. The online article gives the impression that Hobby Lobby founder and CEO, David Green, has decided to shut down all Hobby Lobby stores. The article goes on to say, 'Since you will not see this in the liberal media, please pass this on to all your contacts.' And many people have. The good news is that the report is false. Hobby Lobby is not closing stores. In fact, the company is experiencing tremendous growth, opening 50 new stores in 2016 with plans to open at least 50 more in 2017. The company looks forward to meeting customers’ expectations with super selection and super savings for many years to come."
