SAN ANGELO, TX – A Disaster Recovery Center will open Tuesday, July 15, in Tom Green County to provide face-to-face assistance for residents affected by recent severe storms and flooding across Central Texas, federal officials announced.
The center, located at the Concho Valley Transit Annex at 510 N. Chadbourne St. in San Angelo, will operate from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
FEMA representatives will be on-site to help homeowners, renters and eligible non-residents apply for federal disaster assistance for losses not covered by insurance. Survivors with homeowners’ or renters’ insurance are advised to file claims with their insurance providers first. If insurance does not cover all damages, individuals may qualify for federal aid.
FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration are supporting the Texas Division of Emergency Management at the center. Specialists can help residents identify potential needs and connect them with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations and community groups.
The facility, referred to as the Disaster Resource Center by the City of San Angelo and sometimes called a Disaster Recovery Center in federal documents, is equipped with assistive technology and accessible to people with disabilities and those with access and functional needs. American Sign Language interpreters and other reasonable accommodations are available by calling 833-285-7448 (press 2 for Spanish).
No appointments are required to visit the center. Survivors may also apply for FEMA disaster assistance in several ways:
-
Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
-
Through the FEMA mobile app
-
By calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily. Helpline specialists speak many languages. Press 2 for Spanish.
