Man Crashes into Sign and Gets Arrested for Drugs and Warrants

SAN ANGELO, TX – A 22-year-old San Angelo man is behind bars this evening after crashing his vehicle into a sign, attempting to flee police, possessing marijuana and for outstanding county warrants.

San Angelo Police Sgt. Antoine Callum said, at approximately 6:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Ben Ficklin and Old Knickerbocker Road for an unknown crash. Upon arrival, officers saw a vehicle, an Oldsmobile Alero, had struck the sign in front of Bubba’s Smokehouse.

“Officers tried to make contact with the driver,” said Sgt. Callum. “The driver would not open the door to the vehicle.”

The driver would not comply with officers and open the door. He attempted to drive away as officers tried to get him out, but Sgt. Callum said he was stuck with his tires spinning.

“Given what he had in the vehicle, he was probably trying to get away,” said Sgt. Callum.

Eventually, officers were able to extract the suspect from the Alero. They broke the window with a baton.

“Once they got him out of the vehicle, he was confirmed to have county warrants,” said Callum.

He added that officers transported the suspect to the Tom Green County Jail. They also inventoried his vehicle and found a large quantity of marijuana. Thus, the man will be charged with Possession of Marijuana, a state jail felony, in addition to the county warrants.
