Del Rio Border Patrol Agents Seize 1,400 Pounds of Narcotics

U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Del Rio Sector seized more than 1,400 pounds of narcotics, valued over $1,341, 371 in five different incidents.

According to a press release, on August 8, at approximately 4 p.m., agents from the Uvalde Station, conducting linewatch operations, encountered a vehicle on Highway 57. Agents activated their emergency equipment in order to conduct and immigration inspection on the occupants of the vehicle. The vehicle stop resulted in the discovery of 6.7 pounds of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $214,400. The narcotics, driver and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

On August 10, around 9 a.m., agents from the Brackettville Station, conducting linewatch operations near Highway 131, and encountered foot-sign that led them to six duffel bags that contained 341 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $273,196.

On August 12, at noon, agents from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations near Quemado, encountered a suspicious vehicle. As agents followed the vehicle the driver began driving erratically and abandoned the vehicle in a local field. Further inspection revealed over 335 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $268,720. On August 14, at approximately 4 p.m., agents from the Uvalde Station, conducting linewatch operations near FM 481, responded to suspicious activity at a local ranch. Agents arrived at the location and discovered six duffel bags containing 313 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $251,120.

On August 25, at approximately 10 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station, conducting linewatch operations, followed foot sign in the brush and discovered one subject and seven military-style duffel bags. Further inspection of the bags revealed a total of 417 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $334,160. The subject and marijuana was turned over to the DEA.

All of the narcotics found during the linewatch operations mentioned above were turned over to the DEA.

“Del Rio Sector agents are committed to securing our border and intercepting the flow of illegal narcotics into the country,” Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak, said. “I am extremely proud of our agents for their hard work and dedication protecting our nations’ borders.”

For Fiscal Year 2016, which began on Oct. 1, 2015, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized $7.5 million worth of narcotics.
