G & G Remodeling and Construction Shed Combusts

A couple of motorcycles, tools and a G & G Remodeling and Construction shed caught on fire this afternoon in north San Angelo.

Ricky J. Long, battalion chief for the San Angelo Fire Department, said, at approximately 2 p.m., firefighters responded to the blaze located between 43rd and 44th Street.

He said a workshop with welding supplies inside and raw fuel caught on fire.

“No one was in the building at the time,” said Long.

When firefighters got inside the gate, they had about 600 square feet of building on fire. Engine 6 and 5 put it out, and they called for investigators.

After getting the blaze under control, Long said most of the time was spent putting hot spots out. Because of the raw fuel, firefighters had to wear special equipment. Long noted that the special gear gives firefighters the ability to avoid serious headaches due to carbon monoxide.

“We had 16 firefighters, three engines, and a medical unit on scene the entire time,” said the chief.

Also, due to the hot temperatures, firefighters were rotated out so they could cool off between times on the line.

There were no injuries and the fire is under investigation.
